Milwaukee School of Engineering student Leah Hendricks was named the first recipient of the William A. Bianco Jr. memorial scholarship. In partnership with the Mechanical Contracting Education & Research Foundation, the foundation arm of the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA), Kinetics presented Hendricks with the $5,000 scholarship in recognition of her exemplary achievements in the field of mechanical engineering.

The annual scholarship was created in memoriam of Bill Bianco, founder of Kinetics and a strong supporter of the MCAA, in hopes that he would continue to inspire and support young mechanical engineers long after his passing. The fund is awarded to one individual who meets the following criteria:

  1. A student in good standing of the MCAA student chapter at their institution
  2. Has a good GPA and has demonstrated exceptional scholastic ability
  3. Has demonstrated leadership
  4. Has held a part-time position or internship
  5. Has demonstrated characteristics, skills or abilities that would distinguish him/her as a future professional for the mechanical service or plumbing industry

This year’s recipient has met all of these qualifications and more. Hendricks will be graduating in 2017 with a B.S. in architectural engineering-building mechanical specialty and a M.S in architectural engineering-building mechanical specialty from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Her accumulated GPA is 3.55 (undergrad) and 3.75 (graduate). She is a member in good standing of the MCAA Student Chapter at MSOE.

Hendricks currently works at JF Ahern, a MCAA member, and plans to continue to work there throughout her time at MSOE. As an assistant project manager, she has been responsible for take-offs, bidding and load calculations as well as design and sizing of HVAC systems. She also orders equipment, pulls permits, and completes submittals and shop drawings for various projects.

Kinetics wishes Leah all the best!
